Bins that fit an IKEA TROFAST frame

TROFAST is IKEA's toy storage system: a frame with runners, and plastic bins that slide in. The bins come in two sizes and a few colours, and because the frames are everywhere, other brands make bins that fit the same runners.

Bin dimensions

• Small bin: 16 ½ × 11 ¾ × 4 in (42 × 30 × 10 cm).
• Large bin: 16 ½ × 11 ¾ × 9 in (42 × 30 × 23 cm).
• The lip that rides on the runners is what matters: the bin body is a little narrower than 16 ½ in, and the top edge is exactly 16 ½ in wide.

Two small bins stack to the height of one large bin, so you can mix them in the same frame.

Beyond IKEA

Third-party bins sold as "fits TROFAST" or "16.5 × 11.75" are usually moulded to the same top edge. Bins of the same footprint without the lip fit inside the frame if you use a TROFAST shelf, or in the bottom position of the frame.
